The Medieval Mile Museum is a major new cultural centre located in the heart of Kilkenny City, and the showpiece of Ireland’s Medieval Mile. The setting is St. Mary’s Church & Graveyard, a 13th century cruciform structure featuring medieval and renaissance style tombs of national historical significance. Combining sensitive restoration and contemporary architectural design, the church has been converted into a state-of-the-art museum and exhibition centre.

DesignWorks were commissioned to develop and articulate the brand – from strategy and naming through to visual identity and implementation. This was a unique project that commenced in parallel with the evolution of the Church from ruin to wonder. The identity reflects this transformation – the discovery of ancient craft and the re-emergence of histories carved in stone – telling the stories of Kilkenny’s wealthy patrons and their skilled stone craftsmen.

The Medieval Mile Museum opened its doors in February 2017 with over 2,500 visitors on its first weekend. medievalmilemuseum.ie
